Darpana Communications was launched in the late 1990s to produce much-needed development based television programming that appealed to mass audiences. It interacts closely with the Darpana Performing Group and with Darpana for Development. It produces audio and video broadcast material, CDs, VCDs and DVDs and publishes books and monographs on the arts. It has now taken over the publication of the Darpana Newsletter which has taken Darpana news around the world for the past decade. It offers its expertise and services to NGOs, government agencies and public institutions. Darpana Communications produces videos on issues ranging from women's empowerment to human rights and environmental issues to violence.

Darpana Communications is embarking on a major documentation project on handloom and handcrafted textiles with the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India. With 14 million families depending on handlooms and handicrafts for their livelihoods, this DVD and book project is an invitation to the world of designers to utilize the spleandour of India's lesser known textiles for contemporary wear and use. The project will last a year and entails the D Com team traveling from Kashmir to Pochampally and Arunachal Pradesh to Rajasthan. The documentation will include recording songs related to the textile traditions or their use.

Mohra Vagarna Chehra celebrates the great women who inspire our generation.

Darpana Communications and the team of Mohra Vagarna Chehra is organizing an event at Natarani on Sunday May 29th celebrating a 130 women who have inspired us by ripping off societally endorsed masks and sharing their struggle, joys and pain with the viewers of Aapni Bapor on DD11, to inspire them to walk to their own tunes.

Pahonche Nari Aab Atari

The programme, giving career related guidance to young women, now in its new phase, will give women the opportunity to become entrepreneurs in their own right. Each episode presents information on a variety of businesses, and showcases success stories of women in those fields. The programme series on DD 11 in Aapni Bapor is produced with support from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Darpana Communications to produce science programming on national television for DECU, ISRO

The Indian Space Research Organization is launching a science channel, Jigyasa. Darpana Communications has just been commissioned to produce a special innovative series on science for housewives. Look back for more details.
