CIRCUS ASIA VIDEO CONFERENCE
30 Dec 2007 - 10:30
Ancient traditions confront the modern world in FLASH. The creative
team has united professional artists from Canada, USA, Vietnam, Japan,
Taiwan, and Mainland China to represent the new school in martial arts,
Chinese acrobatics, modern dance, circus and film. On stage, beautiful
bodies engaged in death-defying feats of strength and flexibility, live
musicians mixing a soundtrack of classical Eastern music with the music
of urban Asia,and VJ-producing film projections provide a high-tech
video backdrop.FLASH (presented in dvd) is the first multimedia circus show to adapt Western production values, theatrical staging, and acrobatic choreography to the Eastern esthetic instead of viceversa. It is a surprising portrait of modern cosmopolitan Asia: the youth struggling to find a voice in the masses, an emotional high tension wire between East and West.
Jerry Snell will discuss how to direct this style of multi cultural fusion, and James Tanabe will explain training at the National Circus School of Canada (partner of Cirque du Soleil), and directing acrobatics for theatrical creations. Followed by a short history of New Circus in Canada and it's development in Asia and questions and answers with the public.
